  • People entitled to participate in the competition are all authors who live and or work in the Ruhr Area as well as in the regions around Mersin (Turkey), Middlesbrough (Gr. Britain) and Carbonia/Iglesias (Italy).

  • Contributions on the set theme have to be handed in within each region and meet with the closing date. This will be in the form of a short story in the vernacular (each country´s own language).

  • Contributions sent form one country to another are not allowed.

  • Contributions must not exceed 12 pages (DIN A4, with a maximum of 1800 characters including spaces per page, computer typed or on a typewriter).

  • References regarding the names of authors must not be given or found on the texts. Details of name, date of birthday and address of the author have to be included in a separate envelope. Participants can only submit one short story each in the competition.

  • The contributions from the partner regions will be handed in to the people responsible for the competition within their respective region.

  • The texts which have been handed in must not be published until 10.01.2010.

  • The independent jury of each region, in closed session, selects 3 texts for submission to the international jury.

  • Subsequently the texts nominated are to be translated into English. This has to be instigated by each jury which also is responsible for this. Only then can the texts be submitted to the international jury.

  • Appeals against the resulting translation are not allowed.

  • The international jury decides who the final 3 prize winners are and who receives the first, second and third prizes.

  • Legal action is excluded.

Authors accept the conditions of participation in all these points and when their texts are handed in, they agree to a possible publication in written form or in the Internet.
